QUICK START GUIDE - working with your server

Step 1: Access the virtual machines on the server

You can find the names and IP addresses of the virtual machines running on your server in the Welcome email you receive after the Installation is complete.

You can connect to these virtual machines over the LAN or when connected to the server using the Partner VPN.

To login to a Windows virtual machine using your partner account credentials, you must use the ZCP domain prefix with your username (e.g. zcp\username.smi).

You can obtain more detailed information in this article on the Support Portal.

Step 2: Manage Active Directory on the server

The Domain Controller on the server uses the Microsoft Windows ‘Server Core’ Operating System. This means that you don't connect to it directly using Remote Desktop Services - you perform all of your management and administration tasks from a separate Windows Management Virtual Machine which is present on each server and is named ZMANAGE. You can find the IP address of the ZMANAGE virtual machine in your Welcome Email. Its IP address has the last octet .160.

Use Remote Desktop Services (RDS) to connect to the ZMANAGE virtual machine and you can then run all the standard Microsoft tools (such as Active Directory Users & Computers) from the Administrative Tools folder.

You can obtain more detailed information in this article on the Support Portal.

Step 4: Manage users using the User Control Console

Users can be created and managed in the User Control Console.

The User Control Console can be accessed by Service Providers and, if the Service Provider wishes, one or more 'super-users'.  The Service Provider uses their Service Provider account to access the tool and the super-user uses a local domain account. You can access the console over the local area network or when connected to the partner VPN.

You can find out the URL for the User Control Console from the Welcome email we sent you when the installation was complete. This will be in the form http://zhapui-00.corp.domain.com. You will need to replace corp.domain.com with the Active Directory Domain name of the server.

You can obtain more detailed information in this article on the Support Portal.

Step 5: Manage file shares using the User Control Console

File shares are created and managed in the User Control Console.

The User Control Console can be accessed by the Service Provider and, if the Service Provider wishes, one or more 'super-users'.  The Service Provider uses their partner account and super-users use a local domain account. You can access it over the local network or when connected to the partner VPN.

You can find out the URL for the User Control Console from the Welcome email we sent you when the installation was complete. You will need to replace corp.domain.com with the Active Directory Domain name of the server.

You can obtain more detailed information in this article on the Support Portal.

Step 6: Monitor servers using the Monitoring Console

The Monitoring Console enables Service Providers to check the health of all of the virtual machines running on all of the servers under their control.

Our Support Team also monitors all of the servers deployed globally as a standard part of the service while also ensuring that Service Providers have visibility of the server state and are enabled to control as many of the server's settings as they need to.

To access the Monitoring Console, you first need to connect via VPN to the Cloud Management Platform. Full details of how to connect via VPN can be found here.

Once connected, go to the console at http://monitoring.zcp.zynstra.com/zmon/check_mk

Step 7: Manage networking and security using the Gateway Control Console

The Gateway Control Console is a web based console where you can manage every aspect of network control, from content filtering to spam filtering, remote access to DHCP reservations, all in one simple web based interface.

You can find out the URL for the Gateway Control Console from the Welcome email we sent you when the installation was complete.  This will be in the form https://znetmgr-00.corp.domain.com:444. You will need to replace corp.domain.com with the Active Directory Domain name of the server.

You can obtain more detailed information in this article on the Support Portal.

Step 8: Setup a print server

You can use one of your custom virtual machines or the ZMANAGE virtual machine as a print server.
